The Company Jo Bithume, bringing together several generations of artists from different horizons, give priority to meetings, exchanges and sharing. It's about 50 artists, comedians, musicians, technicians, directors and administrative staff...fascinated by comedy, circus, music and journey... all convinced that theater should be popular, close to the public, especially the public who does not enter in theaters. Today, the company refocus on its artistic desires and develops projects of performances wich will grows from the end of 2010. The performances are most often written collectively, giving them a special strength. They are usually designed for all audiences and for international performance.
The reputation of the company is based to a considerable extent on its large-scale performances, for public spaces, and which it regularly produces on universal topics.
It is also known for the way in which it associates comedy and music ... and vice versa.
While streets are one of the favorite performance sites of the company's artists and technicians, they also offer performances for all audiences created for the stage, in halls or in the open air. The Company also custom-designs events: original creations to fit a square, a neighborhood, or even a city. Each of these events is an opportunity to make the audience active, to bring it into the emotion, blending performance and conviviality, allowing for unexpected and enriching meetings.
It was in this context that it provided the artistic, technical and logistical direction for the "Accroche-Coeurs" street festivities in Angers for 10 years, from 1999 to 2009 : a theme plus décor and direction, some one hundred street theater performances, the involvement of the population of Anger and of local organizations, 150,000 spectators every year...
Building from this wonderful adventure, the company decided to leave the artistic direction of those festivities so that it can reinvents elsewhere and devotes itself to new projects. La Paperie,National Street Arts Center, is now separate from the Company. These structure, initially established by the Company,is continuing his activity, as autonomous entity. You can soon find their news on their site www.lapaperie.fr It is the same for the Circus School, which continues its path independently: an association "circus arts school" has emerged in september. The company is supported by la Ville d'Angers, le ministère de la Culture - DRAC des Pays de la Loire, le Conseil régional des Pays de la Loire, le Conseil général de Maine-et-Loire, Culturesfrance.
